The birth and death of a woman
Exhibition year: 2025
Location: Belgrade, Baza kulturnih zbivanja

The solo exhibition The birth and death of a woman featured a selection of digital collages and a video art projection in Baza Kulturnih Zbivanja. It explored the stereotyping of women by examining the stages through which one is expected to “become” a woman, following Simone de Beauvoir’s idea that womanhood is not innate but constructed. The exhibition reflects on the layered roles women navigate daily—from the divine and maternal to the erotic and political—and questions what truly defines a woman. Through seductive imagery intertwined with irony and provocation, the works both allure and unsettle, inviting viewers to participate in unraveling the complex and often contradictory expectations placed on women. By engaging with themes of sexuality, demystification, and the impossibility of fully untangling the concept of womanhood, the exhibition encourages an open dialogue about the continuous negotiation of feminine identity.
